Northside Hospital Atlanta and Northside Hospital Cherokee have been designated as Regional Care Center PE Centers of Excellence by The PERT Consortium, becoming the first centers in Georgia and metro Atlanta to receive the recognition.

The designation follows a rigorous review process evaluating clinical quality, multidisciplinary collaboration, and outcomes in the treatment of pulmonary embolism. The recognition highlights Northside’s commitment to delivering advanced, coordinated care for patients with complex, life-threatening pulmonary blood clots.

Pulmonary embolism response team, or PERT, programs bring together specialists across disciplines to rapidly diagnose and treat patients using evidence-based protocols. Centers of Excellence are recognized for setting national benchmarks and advancing innovation, education, and research in PE care.

“Designation as a PE Center of Excellence represents a significant achievement in the continuous growth and advancement of pulmonary embolism care within the Northside system,” said Dr.  Kavita Pal, PERT medical director for Northside Hospital Atlanta. “This recognition not only validates our progress but also inspires our team to keep pushing forward, evolving, and delivering higher quality patient care in the years ahead.”

At Northside Hospital Cherokee, the designation reflects a growing regional capability to deliver coordinated, high-acuity care.

“Achieving designation as a regional PERT Center of Excellence represents a transformative milestone for our institution,” said Dr. Spencer Lee, PERT medical director for Northside Hospital Cherokee. “This accreditation reflects our commitment to an integrated, multidisciplinary model of care, ensuring patients across our community have immediate access to a coordinated team of specialists delivering the most advanced, evidence-based treatments for pulmonary embolism.”

With this recognition, Northside joins a national network of leading programs dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with pulmonary embolism through collaboration, standardization, and continuous improvement.
