For Canton resident, Rod Rinker, what began as a sudden and frightening medical emergency became a journey that reshaped his health and outlook on life.
In April 2022, Rod experienced a serious cardiac episode and called 911 after developing symptoms he did not fully understand at the time. He was later diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and atrial fibrillation.
“I didn’t know what was wrong. I just knew something wasn’t right, so I called 911,” Rod said.
After receiving initial care, Rod continued routine cardiovascular follow-ups. But in early 2025, his condition progressed to paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation, prompting him to seek more specialized treatment.
“This time, I knew what I had,” he said. “I reached out to Dr. Alok Gambhir because I knew I needed help.”
Rod underwent two ablation procedures as part of his treatment plan. While he admitted feeling frustrated leading up to the procedures, he also felt confident he was taking the right next step.
“I knew I would probably need another ablation,” he said. “I just wanted to get back to feeling normal again.”
His care experience, he said, had its challenges, but the outcome made a lasting impression.
He credits his physician for playing a pivotal role in his recovery.
“Dr. Gambhir is my hero,” Rod said. “He’s competent, patient, kind and listens to his patients’ concerns. Not only is he a great cardiologist, but he also has a great bedside manner.”
Following his procedures, Rod’s recovery was swift. Today, he says he feels better than ever.
“My recovery was fast after both ablations,” he said. “I’ve been able to do most anything I want with no restrictions. I feel fantastic. I feel like I never had any issues at all.”
Outside the hospital, Rod has returned to the activities he enjoys most, including playing golf, walking his dogs, working in the yard and attending live music events.
The experience also left a deeper impact on how he views life.
“It made me realize very quickly how fragile life really is,” he said. “I’m much more appreciative now. It’s also brought me closer to God.”
Now, Rod hopes his story offers reassurance to others facing similar diagnoses.
“I’ve had two ablation procedures and thanks to God and Dr. Gambhir, I’m healed,” he said. “It may seem scary, but it worked for me.”
